Dr. Aous Abdo
Dr. Abdo is a physicist. He spent a decade in federally funded research: first the Milagro observatory at Los Alamos, where his doctoral work discovered four new sources and produced a signal-extraction technique the field still calls the Abdo variable, then NASA’s Fermi mission at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory.
The work was always the same shape: pull a faint, real signal out of overwhelming background, attach an honest uncertainty to it, and defend it in front of people whose job is to find the hole in it. He is a co-author on 108 peer-reviewed papers, cited around 24,900 times.
He moved into applied work through the Institute for Defense Analyses and a Master Data Scientist post at HP, and founded Analytica in 2015. The problem turned out to be identical — noisy data, a decision that costs money to get wrong, and someone senior who needs to know why they should believe the answer.
He still points instruments at the sky. The deep-sky photographs at One More Photon are the same discipline in a different register: long exposures, careful calibration, and a faint signal pulled out of a noisy background.

On the publication record
A note in the interest of not overselling. Fermi-LAT and Milagro publish with alphabetical author lists, and “Abdo” sorts first — so appearing first on a large number of those papers is a fact about the alphabet, not a claim of having led each analysis. The accurate description is co-author and collaboration member.
The individual contribution worth naming is from the doctoral work: a signal-extraction technique that appears in the Milagro literature as the “Abdo variable”, and the discovery of four new TeV gamma-ray sources.
